Art Appreciation, 3 Credits: Ms. Mary Hanbury
Learning about art is learning about beauty. Art can teach us, it can express ideas, bring you into contemplation, bring back memories and inspire you. This is the type of art that will be the focus of our OnWord class with an emphasis on sacred art. There are some chapters in the text on modern art which does not consider beauty as an element of the piece, rather more about creating a shock or confusion. We will discuss this but will not spend a lot of time on it.
I appreciate the class also dives into the technical aspects of art, explaining different types of paint and pigments through the ages. There are also various art projects to complete; you have several to choose from each week. I am happy to provide some of the materials to students.
